Oscars 2012: Who Took Home An Academy Award

The 84th Annual Academy Awards were held in Hollywood at the Kodak Theatre (or as host Billy Crystal quipped – the Chapter 11 Theater) on Sunday night and there were few surprises.

Crystal was his usual affable, likable self; the ratings were up slightly from last year but there were no really big wow moments to the 2012 Oscars.

The biggest winners of the night were Martin Scorsese‘s Hugo and Michel HazanaviciusThe Artist – each taking 5 wins, although The Artist won the biggest nods of Best Director, Best Feature and Best Leading Actor among it’s accolades.

The Help star Octavia Spencer had a very sweet moment at the podium when she was genuinely overcome with emotion as she accepted her Best Supporting Actress gold statue.

Chistopher Plummer and Meryl Streep were also very engaging during their thank you speeches and Jean Dujardin shared a moment with Uggie, the Jack Russell terrier of The Artist that has become a fan favorite.

Viola Davis and George Clooney were hot contenders for Best Actress and Actor categories, respectively, but both walked away empty handed.

Among the presenters for the evening: Tom Cruise, Penelope Cruz, Jennifer Lopez, Tom Hanks, Cameron Diaz, Tina Fey, Michael Douglas, Bradley Cooper, Chris Rock, Melissa Leo, Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph and Emma Stone.

Viola Davis At The 2012 SAG Awards

Viola Davis

Viola Davis took home a Screen Actors Guild Award for Lead Actress (The Help) tonight!  She wore a custom white gown with bronze embroidery by Marchesa  for the evening’s festivities.   I love how this dress brings out the chocolate tone of her skin, but nothing is brighter than Davis’ smile in this photo.  She won!

The Help turned out to be a SAG favorite, scoring awards for Best Ensemble and Best Supporting Actress (Octavia Spencer) in addition to Davis’ win.

Viola Davis Adopts A Baby Girl

Viola Davis and her husband, actor Julian Tennon have a new addition to their family – a baby boy.

Davis, 46, announced earlier this year she was planning to adopt and at last night’s Elle Magazine’s Women in Hollywood Tribute dinner, she confirmed the adoption.

It was actually her costar from The Help, Octavia Spencer, who let the cat out of the bag when she introduced Davis.

Davis acknowledged she now has a baby girl and told the audience her name was Genesis.

No other details are known at this time, but when she announced her intentions at The Help premiere, she did say it was to be a “domestic” adoption.

This is the first child for Viola and Julian.

Congratulations to the family.

UPDATE: They couple adopted a girl, not a boy as originally posted. We changed the information to reflect the correction.

‘The Help’ Star Viola Davis Planning To Adopt

Viola Davis was radiant on the red carpet last week at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Los Angeles for the premiere of her latest film The Help.

The 46 year-old actress chose a gorgeous red draped gown with plunging neckline from Escada. She kept her accessories simple and gold, including her Judith Leiber clutch.

Davis was accompanied by her husband, actor Julius Tennon and she confirmed reports that they are planning an addition to their family.

“We are about to adopt a baby,” Davis said.

The Oscar-nominated actress also added that they are adopting is “domestically” although no other details were offered.

Tennon and Davis have been married since 2003. He has two children from previous relationships. This will be the couple’s first child.
