Will Smith hit up Miami for the premiere of his new movie, Seven Pounds, last night. The way he’s in with that crowd, he’s for sure showing us that some people love his work. He kind of reminds me of his best friend, Tom Cruise, looking like he wants all the fame.

In the film, Smith plays Ben Thomas, an IRS agent with a fateful secret who embarks on an extraordinary journey of redemption by forever changing the lives of seven strangers.

Parade magazine (with Entertainment Tonight’s help) compiled a list of America’s Top 10 Favorite Stars. Will Smith was number one of course, which you can tell from the cover. I think America is on crack to pick him! He is successful but he is in no mean my favorite. I think he had his time back in the Men In Black times. Here is the rest of the list:

This is an interesting rumor. 

Out doing press for Spike Lee’s “Miracle at St. Anna”, actor Derek Luke let slip an interesting casting rumor he heard on the grapevine.

“I heard they offered Will Smith ‘Captain America’…just shows you how times have changed” the young thesp told MTV News. Luke himself said he is keen on certain roles - “I would love to jump into Green Lantern. There are a lot of stories I’m into… [like] Black Panther.”

Will Smith has an amazing box office draw, he could be just the right choice for a movie version of the all american hero.

4th of July Weekend 2008!

1^st - Hancock was the big money maker this holiday weekend with $66 Million. A good opening, the film actually opened on Wednesday the 2^nd, since then it’s already made $107.3 Million. This is a good example of Will Smith’s box office pull. Smith is clearly loved even though the film received bad reviews from the majority of critics. 

2^nd – The excellent Pixar animated film Wall-E held on strong and raked in $33.4 Million.

3^rd - The action packed Angelina Jolie flick Wanted was in third with $20.6 Million.

4^th – Get Smart - $11.1 Mil.

5^th – Kung Fu Panda - $7.5 Mil.

6^th – The Incredible Hulk - $4.9 Mil.

7^th – Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - $3.9 Mil.

Hancock, is a new film directed by Peter Berg. It stars Will Smith, Charlize Theron, and Jason Bateman. We meet Hancock (Smith), a “superhero” that is scorned by the public for his sloppy drunken “heroism”. After wreaking havoc in one situation after another Hancock crosses the path of Ray (Bateman); a people oriented Pubic Relations guy who decides he wants to help the super-slob to clean up his image. Ray’s wife Mary (Theron), much like the news media and the public, would much rather see Hancock behind bars. This sparks the reformation of Hancock as Ray suggests he go to prison to show that he’s turning over a new leaf. This is where the story really gets crazy.

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have chosen Scientology-based teaching methods for their new private school amid persistent rumors about their religious affiliations.

The Smiths’ New Village Academy is scheduled to open September 3.  The school will reportedly use a teaching method called “study technology,” which “some believe…to be a legitimate teaching method, while others argue it’s merely a way for Scientologists to recruit members.”

The couple has also hired several Scientologists to teach at the school.  The school administrator

insisted the school had no religious affiliation. While some staff members are Scientologists, she told the L.A. Times, others are Muslim, Christian and Jewish.

OK.  These two are supertight BFFs with TomKat and they’ve started what amounts to a Scientology school, and they continue to insist that they are not Scientologists?  Denial seems to be running rampant in Hollywood these days… *cough*Lindsay&Sam*cough*
