First Look: Henry Cavil as Superman ‘Man of Steel’ (Images)

Here’s the first official image of Henry Cavill as your new Superman in Man of Steel. And here are some more images from the set showing off the details of the costume.

Its certainly a much more stylized version of Superman than we’ve ever seen, but it makes perfect sense considering the director Zack Snyder (Watchmen, 300, Sucker Punch). While I like the visuals in all those movies, I wasn’t impressed with any of those movies story lines. I’m hoping Man of Steel breaks the trend and has a great story.

Michael Shannon Cast as Zod in ‘Superman’ Now Called ‘Man of Steel’

Michael Shannon has been cast as General Zod, Superman‘s enemy in the upcoming remake Man of Steel. The film was to be titled Superman: Man of Steel, but the title has been shortened to simply Man of Steel.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today that Michael Shannon will star in the role of General Zod in director Zack Snyder’s new Superman film, titled “Man of Steel.”

Snyder stated, “Zod is not only one of Superman’s most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don’t. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role.”

Yes, the bad guy in the new Superman movie is the same one he faced in Superman II. Hopefully he won’t trap him in a piece of glass and cast him into space again. With Zack Snyder directing this movie, you’re going to have to get used to me being incredibly cynical about the quality of the final product. Shannon definitely looks like he could be a bad guy, we’ll have to wait and see how it turns out.

Viggo Mortensen Drops ‘Snow White’ for ‘Superman’?

Viggo Mortensen has reportedly dropped out of the role of the Huntsman in the upcoming Snow White and the Huntsman. This frees up his schedule making it possible to take the role as the villain in Zack Snyder‘s Superman: Man of Steel.

Viggo Mortensen has ended negotiations for the role of the huntsman in Universal’s “Snow White and the Huntsman” and has moved on from the project…

…Mortensen’s exit from “Huntsman” opens the door for him to take the role of the villain in Warner Bros.’ “Superman: Man of Steel,” which would have shot at about the same time.

Speculation on the villain role in “Superman” has ranged from Edgar Ramirez to Michael Shannon, but sources tell Variety Mortensen has been a leading contender.

Warner Bros. would not comment, but “Superman” director Zack Snyder is said to be interested in Mortensen.

I hope he takes the role in Superman, he’d be taking a brand new step as a major villain. I have no doubt he’d pull off a bad guy role brilliantly. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens, hopefully good news will come soon.

Amy Adams is Lois Lane in ‘Superman: Man of Steel’

Amy Adams has been cast to play Lois Lane in the upcoming Zack Snyder remake Superman: Man of Steel.

This just in — three-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams will play journalist Lois Lane in Hollywood’s revival of “Superman.”

The 36-year-old star got the news on Sunday from directorZack Snyder, who phoned her from Paris, where he was promoting his just-opened film, “Sucker Punch.”

This is great news, she seems like a great choice. After seeing her flawlessly pull off her role in The Fighter I’ve gained so much more respect for her. I think the fact that she doesn’t really look like the Lois Lane lot of people would expect will work to the movie’s advantage. Sadly I’m just so doubtful of Zack Snyder’s ability to create a sense of emotional depth in his movies, it makes me worry Superman: Man of Steel will fall flat. What do you think?

New ‘Sucker Punch’ Trailer Pulls Out All the Effects

Here’s the newest trailer for the upcoming action movie Sucker Punch from director Zack Snyder.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; this movie is going to be all about visuals. Zack Snyder hasn’t proven to me that he’s any better at pulling out compelling performances from actors than Michael Bay. Some directors seem to be hired based on their ability to wow an audience with graphics, I’m hoping Snyder‘s remake, Superman: Man of Steel has a lot more substance.

Girls Introduced in New ‘Sucker Punch’ Poster Series

Here’s the new poster series from the upcoming effects movie Sucker Punch.

Cool posters, again though, not making the movie seem any less like an effects parade. Here’s hoping there’s more to it. Look for it March 25th, 2011.

‘Superman’ Casting Begins

The new Christopher Nolan produced, Zack Snyder directed Superman reboot has started casting. Apparently there is a good chance the new Superman will be an as yet unknown actor.

Warner Bros, producer Chris Nolan, and director Zack Snyder have begun to cast a “wide net” to find the next Man of Steel…

…And he’ll be in the age range of 28-to-32. The studio expects to look at hundreds of young actors before making a decision…

…There will be inevitable buzz on actors like Armie Hammer, the strapping 6’5″ actor who played Cameron. And Tyler Winklevoss in The Social Network and who was eyed by the studio to play Batman in a Justice League movie that Mad Max helmer George Miller was poised to direct until the film got scrapped. But Hammer is only 24. The studio could go the TV route with True Blood’s Joe Manganiello, who claimed during a recent movie junket that he’s being considered and is certainly a strapping 34-year old. Or an actor like Ian Somerhalder of The Vampire Diaries, who is turning 32 and listed at 5’9+”.

Picking an unknown will allow them to pay him a bare minimum paycheck, which the studio will be happy about. His biggest payment will be getting to play Superman, but look what happened to the last guy who played the man of steel, he’s not exactly A-List.

New ‘Sucker Punch’ Trailer is a Tasty Visual Feast!

Here’s the newest trailer for the new Zack Snyder film Sucker Punch.

Beautiful visuals, I’m not expecting a great movie in terms of story, but wow it’s pretty. Zack Snyder is responsible for Watchmen and 300, so you know what to expect.

‘Superman: Man of Steel’ Gets ’300′ Director Zack Snyder

There has been quite a buzz in hollywood about who would helm the next film incarnation of the legendary Man of Steel. Zack Snider (300, Watchmen) is officially directing Superman: Man of Steel!

Zack Snyder has been chosen to direct  the new installment ofSuperman for Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures…

…Deadline revealed back on February 9 that the DC Comics stalwart Superman became a priority project when Nolan agreed to godfather it. He and David S. Goyer hatched the story and Goyer wrote the script. The new Superman’s producers also include  Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder while co-financer Legendary Pictures’ Thomas Tull will serve as executive producer. I’m sure there will be hot debate on Snyder as the choice, but judging from 300, you can be sure the Man of Steel will have an inspired six-pack.

My first response to the news was disappointment since Snyder is all about visuals and less about quality scene direction; but knowing that Christopher Nolan and his team are writing the script makes me more hopeful. At least we know it’ll have a good story and visuals. Casting hasn’t been revealed at all yet, but expect the film in 2012.

watchmendc

Here’s a deleted scene from the film Watchmen, the directors cut is coming to DVD an Blu-ray on July 21st.
